Untitled document Commissioned in 1996, the 225’ juniper is the head ship in the Coast Guard’s Buoy Tender Replacement Project (A huge achievement  to replace the Buoy Tenders which existed during the World War II era. The new ship (225’ WLB) represents the latest technology in shipbuilding, propulsion, and ship control technology.
This new model named the 225’ WLB contains a single controllable pitch propeller, bow and stern thrusters. This gives the cutter much better control that it needs to haul buoys in the frigid waters. A big improvement in the Machinery Plant Control, Monitoring Systems, and Information Systems allow the 225’ WLB cutter allow the crew to service and aid ships on a much more efficient level than before in winds which are up to 30 knots and 8 foot waves.
There are 16 Buoy Tenders currently deployed. The length of the ship is 225feet. The beam height is 14feet and the displacement is 2,000 tons. The Buoy Deck Area is 2,875 square feet. This ship was commissioned from 1996 to 2004
