Untitled document Due to her incredible performances in the International Fisherman’s Trophy in the 1920’s and 30’s, winning four times out of seven entries, the Bluenose is the pride of Canadian Yachting. In 1937, the schooner became immortalized on the ten cent Canadian piece. In 1955, the Bluenose and her Captain Angus Walters were inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of Fame.

In 1963, the Bluenose II was built to commemorate the Bluenose, however, it was not built for racing. In 1971, the Bluenose II was sold to the Province of Nova Scotia and dry docked for tours in Lunenberg. The organization was also registered as a charity under the Income Tax Act of Canada. In 1995 a trust fund was established  to preserve the skills and craft of building wooden ships.

On October 31, 1994, the Province of Nova Scotia decided to scuttle the Bluenose and hand over the possession of the ship to a group of volunteers. Under an agreement with the Province, the volunteers mainted and operated the Bluenose II until March 31, 2005.

Through public donations , and operations surrounding the vessels image and name, funds are raised to maintain the ship and display for enthusiast's to enjoy.
